Hi all, we arrived a week and a half ago in Michigan to introduce out little bundle of sometimes crying sometimes smiling joy to Jeff's family. We intended to set out on Wednesday to drive to Lisa's parent's house but after getting a late packing start we had hail, rain, wind and a power outage. After it seemed as though the storm had passed we tried our luck and hit the road only to have to stop in very heavy rain before the freeway and turn back around. So Thursday morning we made our second attempt up the road to Phoenix. Iris was competing to drown out the loudest volume on the radio so we tried opening the window as someone had suggested that the white noise can soothe them. This didn't work and when we tried to roll up the window it broke! So there we are baby crying, window down on the freeway. Luckily Jeff was able to manually push the window up and sort of held for the rest of the trip. Iris did great on the flight. Who knew that just getting to the airport would be the hard part!
After arriving early our luggage quickly came up on the carousel and things were really looking up. Then Peter, Jeff's brother-in-law, picked us up and we were off... until we ran out of gas on one of the busiest roads in Detroit. Cars were zooming around us as we tried to coast off the road. In a flash, Peter had us gassed back up and we were on the road again. When trying to get settled in to our temporary home in Jeff's mom's den we were setting up the pack-n-play (portable crib) only to realize that we had grabbed the wrong one at the airport and had someone else's! It was dingy and didn't have all the accessories of the one that Tom & Katherene had given us. We figured it was gone for good as someone else had definitely gotten the better end of the deal but then we received a call from the honest guy who had ours and made a plan to meet and make a switch the next morning. It was a long couple of days and hopefully the hardest part of the trip!
Here we are after Iris's first flight at the Detroit airport.
Since arriving it has been one event after the next with an impromptu welcoming party at Jeff's mom's house on Friday, Baptism on Saturday followed by a party at Jeff's sister, Teri's house, another gathering Saturday evening at Kathy's and Martha's 50th birthday pool party on Sunday!
