It had been three long years since we had seen D'nardo and he made the trek the last two times so it was our turn and we were long overdue. We made the three hour car trip (no stops mind you, woohoo). I think this was due to plunking them from their beds and into the carseats at 5:30 in the morning. They were too groggy to know what hit them and Miles eventually fell back asleep. Total success. Then we boarded the car ferry for the next three hours of the trip. This made it pretty smooth as then the kids can be up and about - and up and about Miles was, pushing his stroller in loops around the car ferry. I'm sure we walked well over a mile.
Here's D'nardo's son Henry looking fierce. He was always in pirate costume. Iris was happy to get to sleep in Henry's bunk beds and play with all his toys. Henry was a gracious host even though he didn't have much in common with a three-year-old girl. Funny, he was Iris' age the last time we saw him.

We spent a lot of time relaxing on the porch. Although only D'nardo was smoking stogies. That's pickled spicy asparagus in the foreground that his neighbor brought over for those in wonder.
We brought our Chariot bike trailer along as D'nardo has extra bicycles and that was our main mode of transportation around town, mostly to stuff our faces in between naps (the kids, not ours). On one trip back Iris fell asleep leaning on Miles. Have I mentioned how much I LURVE the bike trailer!!! Super fun!

After being cooped up in a high chair at dinner, Miles was ready to cut loose and show his new skills outside:
It was a great, mellow trip. I don't know what took us so long. Thanks D'nardo!
