We are finally rolling back into Tucson and there is a comforting sense of familiarity for both of us. The desert is most definitely a special place and not just because of the mountains and sunsets. Its the whole open space, deep breath kind of feeling you get there. We immediately met my best friend Kris and her family for lunch as she coordinated a trip back to coincide with ours. Coming out of lunch we ran into someone we knew from college. That is something we both love about Tucson - the small town big city feel. Driving up Speedway it seemed that not much had changed over the last year. The cheap furniture store still even had the chairs on the roadside that look like giant high-heeled shoes (if you've lived there recently, you know of which I speak).
We had to go to plan B when Iris wasn't up for another outing that evening. So we went with an old takeout standby: bean and cheese chimichangas with all the fixings from Paco's and only $3.95. Ah - we've missed you old friend!

Aah, ok this isn't the greatest picture of us and I can't even tell you how many attempts it took. But we were having such a good time as we left the boys in charge of the kids one night and had a couple drinks in front of the outdoor fireplace. That couple of hours made the whole trip worth it for me. There is nothing like an old friend. Cheers!
We only had three days in Tucson but tried to make the most of it and see as many people as we could in a kid friendly environment so we all met at the park. Here's Charlotte and Miles reunited:
Everthing is working according to plan as Iris immediately played with Fiona allowing an adult playdate to ensue:

We awoke our last morning to snow-capped mountains. Some areas in town also were dusted with the white stuff and we thought we might be able to get some of those coveted snow covered cacti photos. But alas, no snow at the Lodge on the Desert.
A fun surprise for us was being able to meet up with Saylor who was in town and joined us for breakfast with Shannon and DeeDee:
